Chetna Sapru - Senior Project Engineer

Tell us about your career journey to date.

My career began with Maersk Oil as part of their graduate programme, where I worked as a Well-Site Engineer on offshore rotations. This role not only gave me invaluable hands-on experience in drilling & well operations but taught me the importance of teamwork and resilience.

Following Maersk’s integration into TotalEnergies, I continued my journey as a Drilling and Completion Assistant Supervisor. These early roles were instrumental in shaping my understanding of operations, from drilling a subsea exploration well West of Shetland to development drilling on Culzean and plug & abandonment work on Janice. Each project brought unique technical challenges and taught me the importance of collaboration and adaptability in complex environments.

As part of the graduate programme, I also had the incredible opportunity to attend IFP Training in Pau, France, where I completed my Drilling & Completion certification and spent some time in TotalEnergies HQ. This experience significantly enhanced my technical expertise and served as a stepping stone to my next role in Well Intervention, covering production optimisation and integrity management.

After several years in drilling & wells, I took a new challenge - moving to our renewables offshore wind business as a Senior Project Engineer, providing project, engineering and interface management for the development of the Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind (ODOW) Project. This role has been both exciting and rewarding, allowing me to apply my technical and project management skills in a new perspective.

Every step of my journey — from drilling and wells to renewables — has pushed me to grow, keep learning and stay motivated by contributing to projects that make a real impact.

Have you had the opportunity to take part in the mobility programme?

A career review whilst I was working as a well intervention engineer helped me to see how transferrable my skills were and what opportunities were open to me at TotalEnergies. There are similarities between my previous role in Exploration & Production and my role today, where my key responsibilities include providing comprehensive project, engineering, and interface management support. I’m leaning on the skills and knowledge I developed in drilling & wells, such as understanding complex engineering operations both on and offshore, working effectively in a multi-disciplinary team, and delivering in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and high expectations.

What is a particular career highlight when you look back at your time in the company?

A few experiences stand out so far, including:

  • Training at the IFP School in Pau, France, which deepened my technical expertise and broadened my industry perspective
  • Chairing the ICoTA Young Professionals (Europe) network, where I helped grow a real community and foster knowledge-sharing among emerging talent through chairing conferences and hosting events
  • Transitioning to a role in Offshore Wind, which marked a significant step in my professional journey and exposed me to new challenges and opportunities

What is the best piece of career advice you’ve ever been given?

It’s okay not to know all the answers. There is a wealth of knowledge within the company and energy industry. So, take opportunities, ask questions, stay curious and keep learning.

What do you think differentiates TotalEnergies?
