Lubricants and oils: for vans

Whether you operate a fleet or drive a van, it’s essential your vehicle runs smoothly and efficiently. Van oil helps guarantee this, keeping the engine protected from unnecessary wear and corrosion so it can operate at peak performance and you can enjoy reduced maintenance costs.

What oil should I choose for my van?

Different vans require different oils, and with so many to choose from, it can be hard to know which oil to use in your vehicle.

Finding out is easy – just check your owner’s manual or input your make and model, or go to TotalEnergies oil finder tool, Lub Advisor, to receive information on the lubricants and fluids your van needs.

But even if you know what oil your van requires, it’s a good idea to understand the differences between different oils and how they are graded. The main difference is oil type:

Van oil grades, such as 10W30, are used to note the viscosity of the oil. Here, the winter number (xW) shows oil viscosity at -17.7°C (0°F), with lower figures noting oils that thicken less when cold. Summer numbers (x/Wx) show the viscosity at 100°C – here, the greater the number, the more the oil is resistant to high-temperature thinning.
