Digital Accessibility Statement

What is digital accessibility?

Digital accessibility is a set of standards and best practices covering functional, graphic, technical and editorial aspects.

Digital media (websites, mobile applications, PDF files, etc.) must adhere to particular standards and best practices in order to be accessible by people with disabilities.

As an example, an accessible website allows users to

  • Customise its display via the operating system and/or browser (enlarge or shrink characters, change typography, modify colors, turn off animations, etc.).
  • Browse using assistive technologies such as text-to-speech or Braille.
  • Navigate without having to use a mouse, just a keyboard, switches or a touchscreen.
  • Watch videos and audio content with subtitles and/or transcriptions.
  • And more.

Our Commitment

We are committed to making our website www.totalenergies.co.uk as accessible as possible. Our aim is to ensure that all pages of our website comply with level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1).

To achieve this, it implements the following strategy and actions:

Adapting your experience to your needs

This website can be viewed on a range of screen sizes and devices, including desktop, laptop, tablet and smartphone.

You might have a better experience if you change the settings on your device to suit your individual needs. For example, changing the site’s colours, increasing the text size, or having the site spoken aloud.

We recommend the following sites for help with customising your experience using accessibility features already on your computer, or for installing extra assistive technologies:

Accessibility of this website

Compliance status

In the absence of a compliance audit, this website is considered non-compliant with current digital accessibility requirements.

Accessibility improvements and development fixes we made in 2026

  • Links across pages are now more descriptive, helping assistive technology users understand information out of context
  • Alt text for both decorative and meaningful images has been improved and provided where applicable
  • The structure of pages has been improved, including headings, lists, labels and tab order
  • Colour contrast issues have been addressed as discovered
  • The responsive design of several pages has been improved allowing greater flexibility when users magnify or change window size

Issues we are aware of and improvements we are working towards

Accessibility to some features may be limited by the website’s content management system.

  • Some of our PDF documents may not be fully accessible to all users.  Please contact us for assistance if you have difficulty using any of them
  • At higher magnifications our chat bot icon may overlap content in some areas
  • Some menus do not automatically close when keyboard users move away
  • Some of our video content may not be fully accessible to all users. We will do further testing to improve captions and transcripts
  • We’re reviewing our images across all pages and will improve alt text where images are decorative and meaningful
  • Some of our links open in a new window so we will make this clearer for all users
  • Some pages have an older page structure requiring keyboard users to tab twice to get to a link

Compliance status of the technical foundation

This site was developed using the TotalEnergies website factory, which enables the creation of multiple sites based on a shared structure and common components.

To ensure the best possible results, accessibility was integrated throughout the process by teams responsible for functional and graphic design, as well as development.

In addition, training on content accessibility was provided to contributors to websites created using this website-building platform. This is complemented by built-in input assistance within the back office and guidelines provided by the Webroom teams.

Non-accessible contents

This site has been designed to comply as closely as possible with the requirements of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1), particularly in terms of design and development.

The following accessibility issues were identified during the websites factory audit:

  • A few contrasts between interface components or graphical objects' colour and their background colour are not high enough.
  • A few links are not explicit.
  • Some scripts are not compatible with assistive technologies.
  • A few page titles are not precise enough.
  • Some language change codes are irrelevant.
  • A few contents are not formatted using stylesheets.
  • A few texts are unreadable when text size is increased up to 200 %.
  • A few contents are not correctly hidden from assistive technologies.
  • A few form field labels are irrelevant.
  • A few content blocks repeated across pages (such as header, navigation, search, main content, or footer) cannot be reached or bypassed.
  • Some input purposes cannot be deducted and thus used to automatically complete forms with user data.
