I joined TotalEnergies in November 2020 as the Laboratory Manager at Ferrybridge, bringing with me over a decade of experience in pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and analytical science. Before joining the lubricants industry, I spent many years working in Quality Control, Good Manufacturing/Laboratory Practice (GMP/GLP) analytical labs, and validation roles across several organisations.

The move to TotalEnergies was driven by my desire to apply my scientific and leadership experience in a fast‑paced, industrial environment where I could make a measurable impact. The transition into the energy sector has allowed me to broaden my technical capabilities while taking on a role focused not only on laboratory performance but also people leadership, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement.

In my role as Laboratory Manager, I’m accountable for ensuring the quality and consistency of every lubricant product manufactured at our UK site. I lead the day‑to‑day activities of the laboratory, guiding a team of experienced technicians and overseeing all testing, validation, and release processes. My focus is on maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, safety, and compliance so that every product leaving the site meets our strict quality expectations.

Alongside product quality oversight, I also coordinate continuous improvement projects across the Ferrybridge operations, driving operational excellence through the implementation and application of Lean methodology.

What is your career highlight?

One of the highlights in my journey at the company has been driving Lean initiatives across the Ferrybridge operations team — helping shape a more modern, efficient, and quality‑driven manufacturing environment.

I’ve been part of a wider ops team committed to challenging traditional ways of working, simplifying processes, and strengthening the culture of integrity and continuous improvement across site.

From improving workflow efficiency to enhancing how decisions are made on the ground, contributing to these cross‑functional changes has been incredibly rewarding. It’s helped build a more empowered team, stronger connections across manufacturing, and an operation that runs with greater clarity, confidence, and purpose.

This experience has genuinely shaped my identity as a leader — one who values autonomy, trust, and meaningful, lasting improvement.

Do you feel like you’re making a difference in your job?

Product quality is central to customer trust, safety, and brand reputation. Knowing that the work my team and I do ensures that thousands of tonnes of product meet the highest standards gives me a strong sense of purpose.
I also see the impact of my contributions in team development, process improvements, and the successful introduction of new products.

What advice would you give yourself if you were just starting at TotalEnergies?
