Workshops have an essential role to play in the transition to a net zero economy.
Our Fit for the Future prize has been specifically geared to address three key sustainability challenges facing the industry.
1. Reducing the emissions of the current petrol and diesel fleet.
There are more than 41 million vehicles on the UK’s roads. The vast majority of these are petrol or diesel engines, and people are keeping their vehicles for longer.
A high standard of maintenance is required to keep older vehicles on the road safely, with lower emissions and with a longer lifespan as drivers prepare to make the switch to alternative fuels.
This effort can be enhanced with the combination of high-quality synthetic lubricants such as our Quartz range, with oil recycling reducing the total carbon cost of maintenance and supporting circular economy principles.
- Find out more about the Quartz Package, including £3,000 of cutting-edge Quartz lubricant delivered in our innovative and eco-efficient 100% recyclable packaging solution. Also includes one year’s worth of waste oil collection and recycling.
2. Preparing for the phase out of petrol and diesel vehicles
The sale of new petrol, diesel, LPG and hybrid vehicles will be banned from 2035. There are already more than 1 million fully electric vehicles on UK roads.
Workshops are adapting to these new market dynamics, even as they continue to serve the current UK fleet. With a significant shortage of skills affecting the industry, particularly qualified EV technicians, this is a significant challenge, alongside investing in required equipment.
- Find out more about the EV Package, including supply of 22KW dual EV charge point and EV training for one technician
3. Energy efficiency and the cost of doing business
It’s not just vehicles that are changing. Businesses are having to adapt to meet both new energy regulations, and to manage the costs of energy supply – which have been faced inflationary pressures in recent years.
Workshops are seeking new ways to reduce energy bills, and move to a more sustainable footing – ranging from incorporation of on-site renewable generation to improved insulation and energy efficiency.
-
