Take us through your career journey at the company?

jack churms

My journey with TotalEnergies began after a short career in Stage & Screen, where I was involved in regional musical theatre productions, UK tours and a short stint in Television. I joined the company in 2020, stepping into the role of Customer Service Advisor. Since then, I have progressed into a sales role and currently serve as an Area Business Manager within the Automotive Division.

As an Area Business Manager, I am responsible for managing a diverse customer base across the Automotive and Heavy-Duty channels. I spend the majority of my week in the field, meeting with customers to ensure they receive exceptional service & a consistent, reliable supply.

What drives you to the sales role?

Working in Customer Services gave me a great foundation of knowledge into TotalEnergies & how we operate. Here I was able to learn about our product range and sales channels. This has really helped me when moving into a sales position, as I was able to hit the ground running with the knowledge I had gained.

My role gives me the opportunity to engage with a wide range of individuals across our industry, building meaningful connections and partnerships. I take great satisfaction in providing effective solutions to customers’ challenges, and I am driven by the ongoing pursuit of new business opportunities.

What is the most exciting part of your job?

What I enjoy most about my role is the opportunity to engage with a wide range of individuals across our industry, interacting with people. I take great satisfaction in providing effective solutions to customers’ challenges, and I am driven by the ongoing pursuit of new business opportunities.

What is a particular career highlight in the company?

During my time at TotalEnergies, I’ve had multiple valuable experiences. A particular highlight was the opportunity to visit our production plant in Belgium. This visit was incredibly insightful into our operations and gave me a deeper understanding of the company’s history.

Another key milestone in my role has been taking responsibility of three national accounts, which has given me invaluable experience in managing strategic customer relationships and allowed me to further develop my skills in key account management.

What is the best piece of career advice you’ve ever been given?

“You won’t have to remember what you said, if you tell the truth” – Something said to me whilst shadowing my predecessor, John Marchant. I am a big believer in being transparent, open & honest even if sometimes it’s not the easiest conversation or not the best outcome. Being upfront about things helps build trust, strengthens relationships & ultimately leads to better outcomes.
