Tall Ships Aberdeen 2025: Sailing towards a brighter future

At TotalEnergies, we believe in empowering young people to unlock their potential and build brighter futures. It’s what drives our activities in local schools and community volunteering, and it’s at the heart of the TotalEnergies Foundation.

That’s why we’re proud to be a Sailing Trainee Sponsor for the Tall Ships Races coming to Aberdeen this summer, supporting young people from our local communities on a life-changing journey at sea.

Our support for the Tall Ships builds on the success of our sponsorship of the Lerwick leg in 2023. As Host Port Sponsor in Shetland, we sponsored the volunteers’ uniforms, with many employees from the Shetland Gas Plant and our Aberdeen office volunteering to support the huge four-day event, which saw over 10,000 people attend each day.

The 2025 race will start on Friday 4 July and continue through until Saturday 9 August. The route is particularly significant for TotalEnergies, stopping at ports that reflect key aspects of our multi-energy operations.

  • Port 1 – Le Havre – home to our floating LNG unit opened in 2023
  • Port 2 – Dunkirk – where, since 2021, we have had the largest battery energy storage site in France
  • Port 3 – Aberdeen (19 – 22 July) – home to our UK exploration and production and offshore wind teams
  • Port 4 – Kristiansand – only a few hours from our Norway exploration and production office and where we have Lubmarine, where we make lubricants for the maritime industry
  • Port 5 – Esberg – home to our Danish exploration and production operations and where we’re a lead stakeholder in Project Bifrost, a carbon capture and storage project

The Tall Ships Races’ sailing trainee programme is about much more than sailing. It gives young participants, many of whom face significant challenges, the chance to develop essential skills such as teamwork, resilience, and self-confidence. By stepping out of their comfort zones and working together in demanding conditions, these trainees gain invaluable experiences that can shape their lives and open new doors.

Aberdeen trainees will sail either from Dunkirk to Aberdeen (10 – 21 July) or from Aberdeen to Kristiansand (21 July – 2 August).

The Tall Ships Races celebrate exploration, connection, and resilience – values that resonate with our Company. This partnership is a meaningful way to support local young people while showcasing our commitment to sustainability and innovation. We’re not just investing in a race – we’re investing in the leaders, problem-solvers, and pioneers of tomorrow.
