TotalEnergies and SSE are proud to announce the opening of the first ultra-fast charging site branded “Source”, by Source-EV, the new charge point operator jointly backed by TotalEnergies and SSE. The two companies signed a binding agreement in July 2024 to create a joint venture aimed at launching a new major player in electric vehicle charging in the UK and Ireland and will deploy 300 ultra-rapid charging sites across those countries.
Located at Ocean Terminal in Edinburgh, this site is equipped with six 160 kW ultra-rapid chargers, powered with renewable electricity, and offers both everyday users and fleet operators accessible and reliable public charging.
The Ocean Terminal hub demonstrates the strength of TotalEnergies’ and SSE's commitment to accelerating the transition to electric mobility through building clean and connected infrastructure that supports a net zero future.
“This first Source-branded commissioning marks the beginning of an ambitious project that we are proud to undertake with our partner SSE. With more than 72,000 operated charge points across Europe, including 32,000 in public charging, TotalEnergies is one of the leading European charging operators and is committed to making electric mobility accessible to everyone. We are fully committed to making Source a leading player in high-power charging in Europe.” says Nicolas Garnier, Managing Director of TotalEnergies Charging Solutions UK Ltd.
"This is a proud moment for SSE and TotalEnergies. Through Source, a strong brand relying on the expertise of both actors, we’re delivering on our ambition to accelerate EV adoption with renewable-powered infrastructure that’s easy to access, easy to use.” adds Nathan Sanders, Managing Director of Distributed Energy at SSE.
With about 1 million EVs expected in Ireland and 6 million in the UK by 2030, TotalEnergies and SSE are leveraging their expertise to scale reliable, high-performance public charging across both countries — with Source playing a key role.
